Kate Loughrey, Harpist
The "Pleasure of Your Company" chamber music series sponsored by the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library welcomes back harpist Kate Loughrey.
Loughrey will perform a program of jazz and classical music which will include romantic and contemporary songs by composers from around the world. Following the concert, audience members are invited to remain for a hands-on harp demonstration.
Loughrey has performed several world premieres for symphonic and chamber ensembles and is active as both an arranger and composer for solo harp. As an alumna of HarpFusion touring ensemble, she has toured as a member and soloist to Asia, Europe, and throughout the U.S., including a party given by Oprah Winfrey in honor of Maya Angelou.
She has won numerous awards in music competitions and in 2007 was a recipient of a Peabody Career Development Grant, which allowed her to perform her original composition for solo jazz harp, "Dawn to Dusk," at the International Jazz and Pop HarpFest in Salt Lake City.
In summer 2011, she was selected as one of 15 young professional artists from around the world to perform at the World Harp Congress in Vancouver, Canada. She also assisted in the production of two CDs by HarpFusion, 25th Anniversary Spectacular (2003) and Harps on Tour (2005), which features her transcription of the Boieldieu Concerto in C for 14 harps and orchestra.
Her first solo album, Dawn to Dusk, will be released in January 2013.
