Write Out Loud, San Diego's popular company that does staged readings of literature, celebrates the writing of Mark Twain and his contemporaries.
The festival includes professional actors and musicians performing throughout the day, puppets, games, and interactive educational activities. This year's also has a Costume Contest open to all ages: "Come as your favorite 19th-century literary character."
The costume parade starts at 1 p.m. Grand prize, $50. Pre-register at [email protected].
