Ade Suparman: Classical Music of Java
This edition of the free Spring Concert Series features Classical Music of Java, featuring Ade Suparman performing Sundanese music with Kembang Sunda, a local Gamelan Degung ensemble.
Ade Suparman, instrumentalist and composer of Sundanese music (West Javanese), and Kembang Sunda a San Diego based gamelan ensemble are featured in the second of three concerts performed at The David Alan Collection in Solana Beach. The concert will be held in their gallery with refreshments and friends, starting at 5pm and the concert starting at 6pm.
Ade is a member of professional folk and classical music groups in Bandung, performing on kacapi and gamelan. He has recorded Sundanese traditional and contemporary music with distinguished composers in West Java. His travels abroad have taken him to South Korea, the Netherlands, and the USA.
“People who have not experienced these incredible musicians will be in for a real treat. The music is beautiful and dramatic and the Kembang Sunda is really a visual experience” states David Alan owner of the The David Alan Collection.
Kembang Sunda is a San Diego based gamelan ensemble that performs traditional Sundanese music from West Java, Indonesia. The ensemble specializes in gamelan degung music, but has also been exploring West Javanese gamelan salendro and kacapi - suling. West Javanese zither and flute chamber music repertoire. Gamelan ensembles developed in the ancient courts of Java and Bali, and primarily consist of tuned bronze percussive instruments. Many different dance and vocal styles are accompanied by gamelan ensembles, as well as puppet plays and important ceremonies.
