Lexington Field and Steph Johnson
Banding Together’s 3rd annual “Greatest Hits” fundraiser will feature Lexington Field, Steph Johnson, and Tolan Shaw, with a live auction that includes a Taylor Guitar, raffle, and entertainment.
Banding Together is a local nonprofit organization that provides music therapy scholarships, mentorships, and other music opportunities to individuals with autism and other special needs. All proceeds from the event will go towards therapy programs for youth and young adults with special needs, such as Autism, that otherwise would not be able to afford them.
Since 2009, Banding Together has awarded 30, 6-month music therapy scholarships to kids and teens in need, totaling over $26,000.
Music Therapy can help to improve speech and communication, assist with motor rehabilitation as well as help improve behavior, mood and social skills. For a young child with autism, using music may provide a “breakthrough” moment for them to start speaking. Rhythm and music can also assist individuals with cerebral palsy or other motor difficulties in learning how to re-wire their brain to walk or move in a more coordinated way.
Banding together also caters to teenagers and young adults with their Jam Session program. “Jam Sessions provide a real life way to connect with the community in this rock band format, while also working on social skills,” co-founder, Angela Neve explains. “Music is a modality that not only is fun, but can also be instrumental in helping individuals reach their potential.”
