Background:

Composer and conductor Stephen Sturk was initially inspired by English church music and Welsh composer William Mathias, though he moved into a more secular and experimental direction after moving from New York to San Diego in 1990.

He and Virginia Sublett cofounded Cappella Gloriana in 1996. As of 2011, Sturk is Director of Music at Saint Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church in Temecula.
