Background:
Tony Gallardo -- aka María y José -- formerly fronted the experimental pop band Unsexy Nerd Ponies. 24 years-old in 2011, he specializes in a Mexican genre known as ruidosón. The sounds are based around electronic techno music and samples, mixed with Latin swing, cumbia, norteño, and grupero, with topical lyrics dealing with contemporary religion and social concerns, particularly as they relate to inner cities.
