Background:
Tenor Manuel Paz Castillo was raised in Tijuana, where he sang in a children’s church choir called the Coro Pueri Cantorum. His younger sisters Aurora and Guadalupe have also pursued opera careers, with mezzo soprano Guadalupe studying under Mexican tenor Ramón Vargas.
Castillo has performed in local operas such as Der Rosenkavalier, La Boheme, and Lucia de Lammermoor. In April 2011, he debuted in the San Diego Opera production of Charles Gounod’s Faust.
