The Eddystone Singers first earned national attention while touring in the '60s with the Hootenanny Tour, sponsored by the popular Hootenanny television show.
The band performed at the first San Diego Folk Festival in May 1967, held at SDSU's Peterson Gym. Guitarist Walt Richards is a native San Diegan whose career dates back to seeing Pete Seeger perform at Hoover High School in 1957, after which he formed the band Kensington 3. As of 2009, he still lives and performs around North County, as well as teaching guitar, banjo, and mandolin at Old Time Music.
