All-male, a cappella doo-wop group the Choice Entertainers were originally formed by Calvin Manson (founder and artistic director of the Ira Aldridge Repertory Players) to perform a doo wop street corner musical, Looking for an Echo. The show recreated songs from groups such as the Platters, the Moonglows, the Coasters, Little Anthony and the Imperials, the Drifters, and the Temptations.
The band still plays to sold out audiences at venues like the Lyceum Theatre, and they won an award from the San Diego Critics Circle for “Outstanding Special Theatrical Event.”
