Werkaholic: Solo Exhibition by Keemowerks

Much “werk” goes into the work of graffiti stencil artist Keemowerks. The Philippines-born artist has put in a lot of effort to make himself known in the art community of San Diego with his custom, multilayered stencil artwork. He is a National City-based, self-taught artist who continues to refine his stenciling process. Thumbprint will be presenting his work in an upcoming solo show titled “Werkaholic.” It will showcase the artist’s dedication to his craft. The show opens Saturday June 8 at Thumbprint Gallery in La Jolla.

Keemowerks creates spray painted street art using many layers of mostly black and white spray paint. He combines his own crafted stencils with this layering technique to create deeply defined spray paint art. His custom-made stencils can be up to 15 layers thick depending on how many different elements make up the artwork. Many of his works are derived from his photography. Combined with his stenciling technique, the images he creates replicate a lot of the details found in the photograph.

His Mary Jane Skulls series is his most prolific series and his goal is to finish 100 portraits. He has been featured in previous art shows at Thumbprint, including “Don’t Say We Didn’t Warn You” showcasing his spray paint stencils on canvas and mixed media artwork made of layered paper stickers.

The show will be open and free to the public at Thumbprint Gallery at 920 Kline Street in La Jolla from June 8 to July 7. The opening reception will be held on June 8 from 5pm to 10pm. Complimentary beverages will be served and all ages are welcome. Contact Thumbprint Gallery by phone at (858.354.6294)
