Performing and Creative Art Showcase @ the Lynx Performance Theatre

Tonight’s free showcase will feature visual art, poetry, theatre, jazz, comedy, singing, food, and other performances by students of the free workshops which are held at the Lynx Performance Theatre every Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The audience is invited to give anonymous, written feedback to performers and time is allotted between each performance to encourage discussion about the artist’s personal connection to their work and how it resonates with the audience.

The two-hour Sunday workshops are designed to help artists refine their expression onstage, on page, and on canvas.

According to the Facebook event: “The primary goal is to decrease the false-self (the self-conscious, defensive ego) and the conscious and subconscious inhibiting interference that it creates and also to cultivate the True-Self (the functional ego) that fosters the release of our true, authentic potential and cultivates our long term artistic growth.”

That includes vocal work, dramatic and psychological improvisation, movement exercises and techniques, rhythm techniques and percussion exercises, and creative and experimental composition exercises.

“…because the primary goal is not improvement of craft but rather development of our potential for creative and performance artistry, much of the work is personal and can be emotionally provocative.”

The workshop is lead by Al Germani, who holds a master’s degree in psychiatric social work from SDSU/UCSD.

“This class is not for everybody and it’s probably not for you,” writes musician Dave Booda. “I’ll go so far as to say it’s not for 98% of people out there. We all have raw, stunning, even frightening art inside of us, but don’t use it because of fear of what might happen if we do. If you do decide to attend this class you’ll be surprised to find out that the only thing that has been stopping you from releasing this inner artist is yourself.”

Tonight – Free – 7 to 9
