Jorge Hank Rhon, a former mayor of Tijuana, hopes to get an endorsement from Mexico’s president to help his run for Governor of Baja California. Many had taken Hank Rhon’s statements lightly regarding a new political run, considering his recent legal issues.

Rhon also owns the Club Tijuana futbol team, which has seen recent nationwide success. Rhon had used his platform during Club Tijuana games to express his desire to run for state office. His team made a run to become champions of the Liga MX in late 2012.

The former mayor has been embattled in numerous legal issues over the last 25 years. In 2009 the United States revoked Rhon’s visa for allegedly laundering money through his businesses, which includes numerous casinos. In a recent interview, Rhon stated that his visa was not revoked, that he simply did not renew it. He also stated that not being able to enter into neighboring California would not affect him if he was elected Governor of Baja California.
