Interpreting Aed Abit, "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance: Contemporary Art"

In this ad, the artist uses words, space, and color to represent the oppression societies throughout the world submit themselves to by omitting color in their lives, and choosing to live in a black and white world. The moment of ecstasy being experienced by the model in the middle, is used to represent the overall love and acceptance we all look for in life. Space is used to represent the dimension and perspectives of life we overlook in general as people. Since everyone interprets emotion in their own unique way, the rainbow in the middle symbolizes the many aspects of passion all of us share together as people. The tears on her face can represent many things- love, joy, or the sudden realization that passion exists and the appreciation of love and intimacy. The female caressing her, is the awakening others should pursue in life, in order to find some kind of spiritual connection. The word “contemporary,” throughout, is explicit- it conveys the modern age in which we all live in and advocates tolerance. Overall, the ad encourages people to find similarities between one another, not as subgroups, but, as people. If as social beings, forming emotional attachments is essential, and building relationships with others is a necessity, why go through life judging others, and hating the things that separate us as human beings, not bring us together? Implicitly, it targets the gay and heterosexual community.
