Baja & Border News Translations: Falling Sales Hurt Business on Díaz Ordaz; Colonia Los Potros is Between Rubble and Debris

Falling Sales Hurt Business on Díaz Ordaz (Uniradio Informa, 1/11/13)

TIJUANA, BC - Almost 100 traders on Boulevard Diaz Ordaz, asked the Municipal President of Tijuana, Carlos Bustamante Anchondo to accelerate roadway resurfacing work since their sales have fallen by more than 50%, and generated the closure of businesses, because they do not have any certainty of when the work will be completed.

It has been a month and a half since they closed one section of the Boulevard and they are now starting to protest using microphones for mediation. Small companies settled in that area are being severely affected, since the reconstruction works are hurting their business and they do not know a dates this work will conclude, said Doctor Alfredo Gaspar Rojas, who heads the protesting merchants.

"Yes, we are very distressed, all of the merchants in the area of the SSN near the Simón Bolívar Clinic 27 because we are being affected. I am asking the Municipal President and the Head of Public Works to expedite the work. In the United States they put people to work at night on double shifts and I think that would be better for the municipality," he said.

He explained that they have even sought help from a delegate of the Bureau, Manuel Trasviña, but they never responded. "We approached the La Mesa delegation and unfortunately were not received. We contacted his Secretary who stated their points of view and that this all comes under the municipality and said that they should be attentive to our requests. They said they are against the painting of all of the curbs red and not letting us park. They only told us they would be attentive."

We have not been informed there are 3 companies and we have waited 3 months time, but we see that it will last longer", he said. However, there are other merchants such as Gustavo García who has said that he is trying to survive, even though sales have fallen by 50%, as it was considered would happen when the work began in the area.

"Maybe they could have moved to another store, but fell sales and we have to endure, and everyone is complaining. They had said they were going to finish on December 24 and now they are going to be another 6 months on this side and six on the other side, is what the engineers told me here," he stressed. http://www.uniradioinforma.com/noticias/tijuana/articulo168225.html

Colonia Los Potros is Between Rubble and Debris (Uniradio Informa, 1/11/13)

TIJUANA, BC - Neighbors in Colonia Los Potros are asking Tijuana authorities for greater vigilance in the area, as it is used by the inhabitants of the vicinity as a landfill so that today they live among rubble and debris. There is mishandling of trash next to this housing unit nestled in the colonia Capistrano area in a field that is used by the inhabitants as a mess of rubble. In addition, building garbage collectors throw their waste there all the time and it is becoming obvious.

Jesús Ortega who is an inhabitant of this housing unit explained that almost weekly municipal authorities arrive to clean the area, but every day the locals return to toss more of their waste, so it requires greater police vigilance, because criminal acts that required the constant presence of municipal police have decreased, they do not care about the citizens’ waste management.

"From the air all the garbage that falls from the housing complex lands here, people clean it up, in comes City Hall and cleans it and then people from Capistrano and Presidentes return and leave us their trash." Municipal authorities come to clean each week. We need fixed surveillance by policemen. Some people who have nothing to do with crimes, a lot of people, maybe among them are offenders, but they never watch them come to throw their trash here", he said. http://www.uniradioinforma.com/noticias/tijuana/articulo168226.html
