Baja & Border News Translations: Scholarship Deadlines Announced; 19,000 Bureaucrats Strike

Scholarship Deadline Announced (El Vigia, 10/2/12)

Ensenada, BC – October is the deadline for young people to benefit from the University scholarship program in 2012 from the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP). Revalidate your registration to receive the last payment of their support, said the head of the Office of Federal Support for Education in Baja California (Osfae), José Luis Kato Lizardi.

The official reminded students to perform the procedure visit the website www.becasuniversitarias.sep.gob.mx/pagobu/ where you must register the evidentiary documents.

The dates for the procedure are detailed and vary according to the letter of the first name. From A to H began yesterday, October 1, and can be processed from 2 to October 8, while the Q to Z will have from 9 to 15 October.

For those still enrolled at the University, it is necessary to send proof of studies issued by the institution for the current school year, receipt of registration or proof of payment for the same period.

Those who have already graduated, you must send the certificate, evidence of completion of studies or an intern certificate. All documents, specified Kato Lizardi, must be on educational institution letterhead.

The University Scholarship Program is offered by the Department of Higher Education (SES), which promotes equality of opportunity, therefore, for some years participants receive 5,000 pesos ($390 US) per year to help with school fees in public or private institutions. Payment is made in several stages.

The head of Osfae, emphasized the importance of revalidating registration, otherwise, students will not be eligible to receive payment. http://www.elvigia.net/noticia/vence-plazo-para-becas-educativas

19,000 Bureaucrats Suspend Work (El Vigia, 10/2/12 by Gerardo Sanchez)

Ensenada, BC – In protest against Governor Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan, 19,000 union bureaucrats suspended activities yesterday in the five Baja California municipalities. The work stoppage began at 8 AM and ended at 3 PM.

Ricardo Medina Fierro, Union General Secretary, said that they will continue these actions until the Governor removes the general work conditions unilaterally filed with labor authorities.

At the moment, said Medina Fierro, the discussion focuses on the percentage of a salary increase, but the Governor also intends to implement working conditions which represent setbacks for workers.

It was reported Union legal advisers organized the strike which could be repeated in coming days. The trade union leader said Osuna Millan has completely stopped dialogue, and despite the provision, the General Secretaries of the various sections have not resumed talks.

He added that in addition to halted negotiations, Osuna Millan seeks to quell demonstrations with a display of police force, as used yesterday during the announcement of the Government's report. At the headquarters there were hundreds of State and Ministerial police preventing access to the protesters.

In the five boroughs the union workers are concentrated at State Government offices. There was agreement by leaders in premises where emergency services are required, that staff would not suspend work.

In Mexicali 8,000 union workers suspended activities, 7,000 in Tijuana, 2,300 in Ensenada, 950 in Tecate and 220 in Playa Rosarito. http://www.elvigia.net/noticia/suspenden-labores-19-mil-bur-cratas
