Baja & Border News Translations: Baja California Test Won in Last 1000 Meters; Kayakers and Canoeists Compete

Baja California Test Won in Last 1000 Meters (Frontera, 12/22/12 by Angel f. González)

TIJUANA, BC - The proof was in a thousand meters of the K4. The competition is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. She is at the head in the canoe, accompanied by April Torres, Isla Hernández and Ana Arellano. The scenario is the Progreso Dam in Yucatan.

A shot sounds and both she and her companions give their best efforts despite the fact that team Nuevo Leon moves forward from the start. The adrenaline goes up increasingly as the goal approaches. The four kayakers leave the best for the final meters and give their extra until they cross the line.

Looking back, she realizes that her teammates can celebrate for being the winners of the gold medal. She realizes the importance of her achievement and doesn’t lift the oar and hit her boat. It is Jacxeny Cosio, who made history by winning the first gold medal in canoeing in the National Olympiad for Baja California in 2011.

After adding the first medal Gold for the State in their discipline, Cosio says that it was somewhat hard to believe, however she enjoyed it to the fullest. "We were floored, we were in first but we could not believe it, it was the first medal, it felt very nice", she said.

Currently, Jacxeny is concentrating with others selected from Baja California in Havana and highlights there is more workload on this occasion because she is committed to a good performance in 2013 and Baja California will host the Maximum Children and Youth Sports Festival of Mexico.

"I thought that it was going to be like the last time, but this time I feel it is more and Baja California will be headquarters for the National Olympiad, so it is more difficult; there is more mileage. I want to send greetings to my parents, because I will miss them on Christmas and New Years,” said Jacxeny Cosio/

Kayakers and Canoeists Compete (Frontera, 12/22/12 by Angel f. González)

TIJUANA, BC - The wind blows strong on the "Las Palmas" dam. Air causes the water to have high waves and the cold front, coming from Havana, makes it difficult to be without a sweatshirt and shorts. He is the first to put his kayak into the water and it is difficult to keep it balanced in the muddy water. It is Alan Baltazar, who was the first selected from Baja California to compete in the "dual meet" competiton against Cuban kayakers and canoeists.

Note the young Tijuana man is nervous because of how hard he is rowing under these climatic conditions and the fact that he was considered and selected in Havana and Pinar del Rio. Before getting into his kayak, he receives the latest instructions from José Sierra, who asks him to change his boat's side; however Alan is distracted and needs the Cuban coach to repeat what is said twice.

After changing his kayak side, the young man begins to paddle toward the starting line for the first test of the competition. At the moment the shot is sounded, movement is indicated; Alan nerves have forgotten their tension and become emotion seeing that his opponents are increasingly left behind.

The bajacaliforniano reached the goal under the applause of all present; He has become the first candidate to win the "dual meet" and dominate the "Blue Squadron". http://www.frontera.info/EdicionEnLinea/Notas/Noticias/22122012/652947.aspx
