To attract people to the East County in San Diego, In 1887 the El Cajon Land Company built the Lakeside Inn in Lakeside Ca. A water supply was needed so a dam was built in a nearby creek. ( Location cannot be disclosed at this time) I found a photo of the dam in the Book Legends of Lakeside (published by the Lakeside Historical Society) I asked many if they knew of the location or existence but none could give me an answer till my friend Pam Wilmer's told me of a water fall she played in as a child. She took me to the location and low and behold in the thick underbrush the Dam!! The builders chose a good strong location in a narrow gorge with deep rock on both sides. It appears to have been built with giant stones from nearby. The Dam is in great condition and is about 4 feet wide 20 feet tall and at least 125 feet across with a spillway in the center and 2 smaller ports at the south end. For 124 years the dam has withstood the test of time and many raging torrents. Its location is in a beautiful location with Oaks and Sycamore's nearby tall steep hills at either side.
