South Park Cat Tales: My Wherabouts & a Small Favor (#6)

November 22, 2009 A.D.C.

Hello, my fine Uprighters. My apologies for my brief hi-cat-us. I do have reasons for it, though, which I will gladly share with you.

First, I have been taking care of Two Legs for a while. He wasn't sick but he needed me. Let me explain. He has been moping around the apartment and one day I caught him staring out a window. While staring out a window is not a strange thing at all- in fact, it's one of my favorite cat-times- his eyes were dead, they had no life to them. I have been around long enough to know Two Legs can take care of himself but in that same amount of time, there has been an instance or three where that same empty look fills his eyes and at that point, I know he's not looking at anything in particular. Which I find to be upsetting, by the way, because you have to consider the alternatives.

So I knew Two Legs needed me and it was my feline duties to take care of the Uprighter that takes care of me so well.

Task one, make it known that I am there. Now, this is really more of something to be expected than a task because I always announce my presence when I enter a room. However, this was more than that. This time, I needed Two Legs to know that I was there and with him.

Task two, give him the little things. Like this:

(Poster's Note: I swear, she actually left me a smiley face in her food bowl. I walked over one night to feed her, looked down and there it was. A smiley face made of cat food looking into a sad face made of emptiness. It completely turned me around. My cat is amazing and she doesn't even know it. Actually, she probably does.)

Sometimes all Uprighters need are little things. We felines know this. We feed off it. It's what makes us the superior race.

Anycat. Two Legs has been slowly coming back to form, thanks to me. But I prefer a happy Uprighter to a sad one. I just hope I eventually get a little help around here. I only have so much that I can give and Two Legs, well, he's a mess right now.

Ok, enough of that. Basically, I have been pre-occupied and I apologize for being away for so long.

The next thing I want to bring up has me worried. Even though I've been spending a fair amount of time with Two Legs, I still get a chance to sit in my favorite window and watch my favorite neighborhood, South Park, as it lives and breathes. But one thing I've noticed is that Dexter disappeared. A little while ago I saw him rubbing up against some intoxicated Uprighters and getting scads of attention.

(Poster's Note: Scads? I really think that when I'm at work Stella reads the dictionary.)

Then, mysteriously, Dexter disappeared for a while. Until a week or so ago.

It was dark out. Two Legs and I were asleep on the bed when all of a sudden the sounds of hell showing its face filled the air. Two of my own feline kind were fighting. I understand it's part of the game but I still don't like to hear it. So Two Legs and I rushed to the window and lo and behold, there's Dexter. And he's losing the fight.

There was screeching and clawing and biting and more screaming, and dirt was flying everywhere. It was directly under a street light so the fight was in full view for the world to watch. But Dexter and his opponent were in a very heated battle that lasted quite some time. There was back arching and circling around, the leaps and lunges and hissing. Then it happened. The other cat leaped on to Dexter and it was all over from there. Dexter was down. Fighting, but down. They rolled around and I could hear Dexter screaming from an entire town block away. I saw him take a few swipes but they did no damage. The other cat was just more superior. And just as quickly as it started, it ended with Dexter finally getting from under the other cat and running, but not without the other cat in tow.

I ran to the other window, hoping they'd go by that one but nothing. I asked Two Legs where they went and if Dexter was okay but he looked like I felt. He picked me up, gave me a good squeeze, told me Dexter will be okay, then we laid back down in bed. I could tell neither of us could sleep, though. We were both worried about Dexter, and rightfully so. That was an intense battle that had my friend come out on the wrong side of it.

I did not see Dexter after that and feared the worse. Then last night, I saw him across the street by himself. And he didn't look good at all. He had patches of fur missing and it looked like he walked with a slight limp. He kept trying to clean the wound but I could tell that it was painful for him. He then walked away out of sight. I meowed hello to him but he didn't look back.

So I have a favor from all you Uprighters. Dexter is hurting and that hurts me. He's a fellow feline and my friend. Please keep him in your thoughts. And if you have an animal friend, even if it's a drooling and smelly canine, give them some extra attention tonight in Dexter's honor. We know you Uprighters love us but it's nice to feel it sometimes, too.
