It Was Worth a Dollar I was peddling down the Historic 101 past Oceanside Blvd and ready to breath in the sea and tranquility of upcoming Carlsbad. I see a fifty something year old black lady with a purple dress with a lot of junk in her trunk. She smiles and I return it with a hardy “Howdy.” She calls after me in a nice way “Come over her for a moment. I know you.” I get off my bike and walk toward her. She approaches me, “I haven’t seen you in ages. What you been up to?” She flashes me a smile that would melt butter. I think, “I don’t know her name and can’t recognize her.” I walk into her warm and friendly embrace. As if we were best friends forever, she adds, “I’m a bit low on luck, could you give me a donation to feed my children.” I said, “Certainly, I’ll share my riches with you. Here’s your half.” I gave her one of the two dollars in my wallet stating, "Thank you for the hug.” She responded, “Thank you, sir.” I answered, "It was my pleasure!"
