U.S. Dentist Fears Patient Safety, Income Loss From Cross-Border Competition
"Ortiz goes on to offer tips on how U.S. dentists can discourage their patients from seeking to save money across the border." Instead of trying to fight the laws of economics, perhaps energy would be better spent pushing for universal dental coverage for all Americans. Then all Americans could be treated in the United States.— December 22, 2011 10:05 a.m.

Economic Survey Finds Plurality of Californians Supportive of Occupy
Or maybe it's just that the Occupy message about income equality appeals to more people than the Tea Party's message about too much government.— December 15, 2011 8:46 a.m.

The Pits
Joe Diko of the San Diego Fire Department also gave a monthly report. He seemed concerned about the impact of fire station closures on San Diego's emergency preparedness. "It's going to be challenging this summer with the station closures," said Diko. He explained that his fire station was responding to nearly twice as many calls since it began covering for recent cutbacks at a nearby station. Diko also said the Easter Sunday earthquake suggested the city is not ready to respond to a large-scale disaster. "This city was tapped," he said. According to Diko, emergency crews were stretched to their limits just responding to calls from panicked San Diegans. "It was really quite a mess. We were all saying, if we really do get the big one, it's going to be something."— April 29, 2010 4:28 p.m.
Coffee Party Pooper
You're welcome. A few more notes from the event: Filner believes most politicians would rather not take the money out of the system. "That's why there has to be a grassroots political movement to demand it," he said. Mike James, a leader of the San Diego chapter, said the Coffee Party -- both locally and nationally -- was continuing to draw new members and beginning to engage in civic action. "Follow us," James said, pointing to the group's Facebook and web pages. Eric Byler, the national organization's second in command, said "there's a lot more agreement" among Americans than is portrayed in certain corners of the mainstream media, particularly cable news, the theatrics of which Byler compared to professional wrestling.— April 13, 2010 9:21 a.m.
OB to Fight for Fire Pits
Keep in mind that the $120,000 could apply to more than just the employees. For example, fire pit maintenance reportedly involves a front-loader and a dump truck, which presumably contribute a significant portion of the expense.— January 9, 2010 11:37 p.m.
