As a homeowner or property manager always make sure that the mold remediation company you hire is licensed and bonded. Get references from trusted sources, like friends and/or the Better Business Bureau. Don't be afraid to ask for credentials, both for the company and the workers. Workers have to be individually licensed by the way, not licensed as a group. If there are trainees or apprentices, make sure they are always supervised by one of the licensed workers. Check their license validation with the state department of consumer affairs. While on the DCA website check the company and individuals for complaints. The BBB website will have a complaints section also. Water extraction experts need to be checked out also before signing on the dotted line even if, and especially when, it's an emergency. Soon There Won't Be a Barrio Logan
Where are the fanatics of old architecture who conjured up the Hertitage Park and moved old houses there? Why aren't there the same fanatics who saved Villa Montezuma or the Timken Mansion shouting about the hertitage of Senor Villapando's 108 year old house? This extends to the old warehouses and manufacturing buildings too. Ryan Brothers, as reported in the story, is a gringo business that respected the hertitage of its' building. Yet just across the street the old buildng was razed to the point of having its foundations dug up and turned into gravel. Soon the Barrio Logan trolley station will have some kind of upgrade, although what that is is not clear on the MTS website. WE love Chicano Park and have long awaited the promise of "from the 5 to the Bay" That is the only promised developement we want, but where is it?— February 3, 2010 8:05 p.m.
Sell It to the Jury
So how secure are the court documents that are electronically transfered throughout the building? And what about the professionals who work in or visit the building, attorneys, researchers, clerks etc. who could be dealing with private client information while in the building for court business? There are certainly hackers capable of reviewing or altering court records in the guise of awaiting ordinary jury duty.— February 3, 2010 6:36 p.m.
Patience needed for landlord fights
Regarding "Moving Out" in the City Lights column published on October 22, 2009. An additional resource for researching prospective apartments is the Megan's Law website of registered sex offenders. Not that it does much good since San Diego seems to be a dumping ground for parolees. But at least you can be better informed about what kind of ex-cons you're moving near.
