Pacific Beach Foot Traffic, Retail, Up in Smoke
In the ten plus years I've lived in PB I have been the victim of a crime on several occasions. Stuff like vandalism. I don't even think twice about the crimes that were committed. For 20 reasons. I'll give ya a couple: >they were small misdemeanor crimes, not like I was assaulted or anything lol >San Diego is GREAT, PB is great, my health is GREAT, life is GREAT, so in a nutshell why sweat the small stuff????????????— April 11, 2011 1:33 p.m.
Pacific Beach Foot Traffic, Retail, Up in Smoke
Sorry but I'll have to discredit your post so as not to mislead others. There is no "Tasty Freeze" store in PB. If you think there is please post their address and phone number. If there is a store in PB you can be certain their contact info is available online.— April 11, 2011 1:25 p.m.
Pacific Beach Foot Traffic, Retail, Up in Smoke
No matter what town you live in you're bound to hear the Chamber of Commerce urge the local citizenry to 'Support your community by patronizing local businesses.' I've always thought that a bunch of crock. That's like asking for a handout. I'm an experienced, wise shopper who lives in PB. I shop at places that offer the best price, the best customer service and the best product support, with the best warranty. And if that means I have to get in my car and drive across town to shop, or shop for said item on the Internet, then I'll do that. Money is like a reward. If you want me to reward your business then you better, in exchange, be able to offer the things mentioned above. Because if you don't, I'll shop elsewhere, no matter how big your fake smile is no matter how warm and cheery your disingenuous personality is, no matter how many times you tell us how 'wonderful' your store is. And don't try and sway me with that Better Business Bureau sticker or Yelp sticker you placed on your window. Because wise shoppers know that some businesses pay the BBB and Yelp a monthly fee in order to garner a favorable rating. If I see a BBB or Yelp sticker on your window it has the opposite effect, that sticker tells me you just might be a dishonest merchant.— April 8, 2011 8:46 a.m.
Potiker Family Senior Residence vs. the Lighthouse on 14th and Market
Incognito: I learned a lot from your post. I wanta thank you for sharing. I am dealing with sort of the same legal issue, (bad management, unethical employees) at an apartment complex in San Diego. Case-wise the people at Potiker would seem to have a lot of things on their side. They just need to get a move on and start the legal process. They should use digital recordings of statements made in public, which I believe would be admissable in court. I've been using an Olympus digital voice recorder. If you're creative it's very easy to hide. It's so small that sometimes no one notices it in your hand, although on a rare occasion a sharp individual will spot it. No matter, you can tape it to your body underneath light clothing. I use an Olympus (the VN-960) that's an absolute wonder in that it has been super reliable over the years and has never given me any trouble despite being used on a daily basis. Olympus discontinued the VN-960. Recordings are a great way to catch unethical business people in the act of violating the law. I called Olympus a few days ago to find an equivalent model because like a spare tire for your car back ups are crucial when you're on the lower bottom of the totem pole and you're gathering evidence against someone with mucho power who's perched at the top of the totem pole. And when you're seriously outnumbered. And when you're dealing with people who have power who think they're above the law, laws written by lawmakers for a good reason. The Olympus VN-6200 is the equivalent model to my VN-960. I don't work for Olympus. But like those senior citizens I'm in a war that I really don't want to fight but have no choice in that I must fight. And when you're at war you need the best tools to get the job done especially when the balance of power between the two combatants is grossly uneven. And thus I hope they're reading this, I hope I helped them in their cause and I hope I saved them some time in searching for the right tool in that big haystack a.k.a. the Internet. I was reading a review at Amazon that was written by a cop. He was reviewing an Olympus digital voice recorder he had purchased. He said that he turns it on at the beginning of his shift and then tucks it in his pocket. He then turns it off at the end of his shift. That's a smart thing to do considering the great propensity supposed honest people have for lying at the drop of a dime. And I, based on my experience, include in that category those that are inveterate church goers who go to Sunday school once a week to be schooled on issues that pertain to morality and honesty, but yet don't appear to put into practice what their spiritual leader teaches them. If the senior citizens at Potiker can find a good, competent, reasonable judge then it would appear that they'd have a good case that they just might win. I wish them well. I hope they take action. And I hope they win.— August 5, 2010 7:19 a.m.
The Right to Party Left Intact
Jacob Pyle was the man who spearheaded the pro-alcohol coalition during the election to vote on whether alcohol should be allowed at the beach a.k.a. Proposition D. Pyle had good intentions. But the minute I first became aware of his campaign strategy I knew his side wouldn't win. Simply put he fell far short of using the media to his advantage. Pyle and his team did not draw up campaign commercials that might have given his side an edge. His campaign strategy that he tried to sell to the public was based solely on freedom and liberty while there were several other more potent angles he could have used to his advantage that him and his team completely overlooked. With the PB Block Party gone and drinking not allowed at the beach I must say that if you just moved here you don't know what you missed. It was great fun. And I say that as a 57 year old beach resident who rarely drinks alcohol to begin with. Kate Sessions? That's a very nice park. But when it comes to the future of alcohol I don't care what they decide to do with Kate Sessions, either way it doesn't matter. The outdoor portion of PB/MB is pretty much effectively watered down thanks to District 2 city councilman Kevin Faulconer. Faulconer had s strong hand in eliminating the PB Block Party and in banning alcohol at the beach. If you just moved here: too bad you missed it.— July 7, 2010 2:08 p.m.
Mechanical Watchdog
Guess the writer of this report figures that a curious reader will go to Google Maps to find the towers location. Let me save the reader some time and trouble by stating that in order to use Google Maps you'll need some basic information like a street name or a cross street or the buildings street address. None of that was provided by the so-called writer of this article which is more than a little ridiculous because as many San Diegans know there are plenty of cross streets that intersect the beach that the reporter could have used for geographical reference. It is for that reason that I rate this sorry report a thumbs down / 1 star on a Youtube-like rating scale.— July 7, 2010 1:46 p.m.
