Comedy in San Diego has its glass ceiling
I attend local comedy with regularity. It must be my fiber supplement. I saw Jordan Coburn for free at Comedy Heights, run by Al Gavi and Maria Herman. I do their photography. I chatted with Jordan after her set. She is a delightfully funny person, knowledgeable and adorable. http://www.sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2019/s…— September 26, 2019 2:40 p.m.
San Diego's debt to Bob Filner
I remember Saturday Night Live did a parody . It was a skit about the Phil Donahue show. The premise of the show that Phil declared, "Men Bad, Women Good!" "I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury." Groucho— December 29, 2017 4:08 p.m.
About Time
Sounds like a bad ripoff of Ground Hog Day. Rent Ground Hog Day with Bill Murray. It's a better story and funnier as well as charming.— December 20, 2013 10:57 a.m.
Less Than Half of Californians are Middle Class
Dear S. Puppy619, In your haste to negatively cast state workers, you forgot that that many had their pay cut. And worst many lost their jobs, homes and futures. Also, myself, had no pay increases for five years while the cost of living went up. Our top administrators at UCSD (yes that 1%) have increased their pay and benefits during this time frame. You might want to consider that you get what you pay for too. I wonder what a minimum wage prison guard would be like?— December 8, 2011 12:53 p.m.
Burgundy on Park
Hi Ed, I live in the neighborhood. It looks like you did not try the paella. Well, I did. It is not very good. It was plain, devoid of flavor, color and the consistency of the rice was too sticky. It wasn't like any paella I tried before. I to lived in Europe. But that doesn't mean it makes you a good chef. The paella did not have any of the saffron color nor flavor. I'm not sure if they used bomba rice or calasparra. It definitely was not a traditional mixed or Valencia style paella. The broth at the base suffered from lack of flavor. It had chunks of meat. But to be honest I can't recall what the meat was. Overall, it was a negative experience and did not approximate a traditional experience. If you want a good Valencia style paellla try El Prado Restaurant in Balboa Park or House of Spain's paella. Those are paella worthy dishes. Groucho— August 11, 2011 11:21 a.m.
