North County brewer shuts down
I agree with David 100%. Went there years ago and it was truly the worst brewery I experienced in all of SD County as to choice and taste. They were being somewhat experimental back then, I recall a Black Pepper beer and a Caramel beer and a ginger type beer. I found the flavors off and never returned. The owner was nice and it seemed it truly was a passion that evolved out of his garage to this space. I just think they needed main stay type beers to hook followers then play around with different profiles.— February 13, 2017 11:51 a.m.
Never homeless: Ripped off in Mission Bay Park
What a low life 'viewer' is. 'Viewer' acts like he/she personally is paying for this guys phone. Even if it was paid by tax payers, which is unclear and I doubt, the entire nations homeless might cost 'viewer' $13 a year. Meanwhile 'viewer' doesnt blink an eye that he pays $56 a year in taxes for big oil subsidies. What a miserable, horrid person 'viewer' must be.— January 28, 2014 9:41 a.m.
Lightning in a (smaller) bottle
I love Lightning Brewery beer, but I am surprised with a name like 'lightning' that the packaging/label looks so plain and uninteresting.— August 15, 2013 2:09 p.m.
She gave her son a house in Solana Beach, a new Lexus, and $130,000
I hope he gets the death penalty. What a horrible human being.— May 22, 2013 10:57 a.m.
So long La Jolla Brew House
Great article! I have been to 43 SD 'breweries' to date and this was the worst experience I ever had! I discovered it when I got a discount coupon at Del Mar Intl Beer Fest a few years ago. When I showed up with friends, the coupon was rejected based on the most ridiculous fine print ever. I let it go, but called the owner and voiced my complaint about it. She was the worst person I think I have ever encountered in the restaurant service industry. She was an insulting, angry, nasty person and I vowed to never go back. Glad its out of her hands. I am sure she drove it into the gutter with her personality. For real entertainment, read the Yelp reviews on this establishment.— May 9, 2013 11:12 a.m.
In P.B. the hotter you are the easier it is not to care
Great article! Takes me back to my own PB days. Good luck with finding yourself.— April 17, 2013 10:20 a.m.
Cheapest steak in town?
In North County, specifically Carlsbad, there is a legendary place called Tip Top Meats. It is a German deli plus restaurant. You can pick any sort of steak right from the deli case and they will cook it for $2 more and throw in the sides. But you can also take advantage of one of their specials. One of the best deals I have seen on steak is their $9.99 Steak and Stein. You get a BIG steak plus soup/salad + potatos + a draft beer for that price. Ive never seen a better deal in SD anywhere.— January 9, 2013 9:31 a.m.
Tour de Cheesesteak: stage 9
I sit here jealous. Can there be too many cheesesteaks? LOL.— December 11, 2012 4:36 p.m.
Tour de Cheesesteak: stage 9
Glad you liked it. I still would love to hear your thoughts on the chain Jersey Mike's and try their Big Kahuna. I realize one cannot do it all but you can always add onto this in the future and create the definitive SD cheesesteak reference. Good job! Cheers.— December 11, 2012 10:35 a.m.
Tour de Cheesesteak: stage 8
Your scraping the barrel of cheesesteak locations. You gotta head north. The SD Reader lists top places in SD county each year and your missing the top names. Philly Franks in San Marcos is one.— December 7, 2012 10 a.m.
