Since my youth, I have been a big World War II history buff. I remember watching Saving Private Ryan for the first time in 7th grade and the WWII Through Russian Eyes exhibit at Balboa Park. During my college years at Marquette University in Milwaukee, I partook in WWII re-enacting and gain valuable insights into some of the things vets experienced. My maternal grandfather, George Savard, was a Lieutenant aboard PCE (Patrol Craft Escort) 872 in the Pacific Theater. I never had a chance to meet him, learn about what he went through or, more importantly, thank him. I will always be proud to have a WWII vet in my family and this is an homage to the sacrifices that he and the rest of the Greatest Generation made.
