Bob Dazzla's records stolen

Moonshake resident and BUMP host lost vinyl rarities in front of his Bankers Hill house

Only hours after playing for a full house at El Dorado Cocktail Lounge (1030 Broadway, Downtown), Bob Dazzla had over 60 records stolen from in front of his Bankers Hill home at around 6:30 on Sunday morning.

The theft came after a Moonshake reunion in which Dazzla played alongside fellow residents Mark Quark and Lee Reynolds.

“It was a crime of opportunity,” Dazzla, aka Matthew Michael, wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

“I left the bags briefly unattended and they were snagged. The records were all DJ-copies, so [they] won't fetch top dollar. I think it's likely the thief is going to get rid of them ASAP, maybe at a used record store in town.”

A list of the stolen vinyl can be seen here.

“I will never be able to get all of those back,” Dazzla tells The Reader. “Some were test pressings [or] gifts from friends… [I’m] crushed.”

Now, Dazzla is appealing to San Diego record collectors for help.

“It's a longshot but what I'm saying is, if you are buying used records and come across a shockingly tasteful collection comprised of the linked jams, please let me know so I can buy them back.”

The records were taken in a black UDG Slingbag deluxe Trolley (the 2-bag version) along with a pair of headphones with Thrasher stickers on the ears.

“I've let go already but [it] would be nice to get some of this back,” Dazzla writes.

In the meantime, Dazzla is gearing up to host his third installment of BUMP, a night of “boss DJs, dedicated dancers, and serious sound” that carries on Moonshake’s tradition of cosmic ass-jigglin’.

Moonshake went on hiatus with the closing of Kadan in August, 2012, and has thrown a handful of reunion parties since.

You can take a Bump at El Dorado on Saturday, February 8 with Conor from San Francisco monthly No Way Back, Mark Quark (who is celebrating his birthday), Shige (Pacific Handlers), and Bob Dazzla.
