Ramona sheriff's deputies arrested 23-year-old Devin Jones early Thursday morning, October 24, after he reportedly used a hatchet to attack a homeowner whose property had been damaged.

At around 6 a.m., the unidentified victim on the 600 block of B Street emerged from his home to investigate what sounded like a loud banging at his door. An argument ensued when he confronted Jones about damage he had caused to an air-conditioning unit and the side of his house. Another neighbor who heard the commotion came outside and threatened to call authorities if the noise didn't cease.

At this point, Jones charged the victim, who, fearing for his safety, fled to his truck and locked himself inside. Jones began to swing the hatchet at the driver's side door, damaging the vehicle while screaming profanities. He fled the area on foot before deputies arrived and was located a short time later, still in possession of the hatchet.

Inspection of the victim's property revealed hacking damage to the air-conditioning unit, the home's siding, and a garage side-entry door.

Jones was booked into jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, felony vandalism, threatening a witness, theft, and for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
