In April, I shared details on the installation of the San Diego Brew Project inside wine storage and retail emporium 57 Degrees (1735 Hancock Street, Five Points). As far as new beer-centric spots go, it rated high for me for its ability to provide customers an affordable, educational taste of the local ales and lagers being produced all throughout San Diego County, saving interested parties the time, gas, and automotive wear-and-tear associated with touring multiple breweries.

To be clear, few activities are as fun as a good day of brewery touring, but there’s something to be said for the ease of one-stop shopping. That’s just what one gets when bellying up to the bar at San Diego Brew Project. Thirty-one rotating taps pouring beers plucked from around the county, from the largest of production breweries (Stone Brewing Co., Karl Strauss Brewing Company, Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits) to the tiniest of the nano class (ChuckAlek Independent Brewers, Mad Lab Craft Brewing, and Wet ‘N Reckless, to name a few).

Customers can order sampler flights comprised of three- to four-ounce tasters, but to-date, that was the maximum amount of any of the beers patrons were allowed to purchase. But that will all change today, Tuesday, June 18, when San Diego Brew Project begins selling pint-sized pours (a friendly nod goes out to U-T San Diego journalist Pete Rowe, who writes a column of the same name) ranging from five-to-seven dollars apiece. Higher alcohol beers will clock in at the higher price point. Four-dollar daily craft beer specials will also be offered.

It’s the next and necessary evolution for a place that already has a lot to offer. In the future, look for San Diego Brew Project to install a pair of roll-up doors in one corner of the space to offer guests the opportunity of kicking back—with a pint, if they so desire—and watching planes descend onto the tarmac at Lindbergh Field. Variety, full pours, plane spotting, and a wide-ranging taste of San Diego are all good reasons to check out this promising newcomer.
