Ten years ago, Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell) graduated from SoCal's Neptune High and walked away from her life as a teenage private eye. Eventually, she went to law school - though not before dealing with a leaked undergrad sex tape (we ain't on TV any more, folks). But just before she goes NYC corporate, she finds out that her old flame Logan (Jason Dohring) has been arrested for murder, and you don't need to hear the overwrought, narrated addiction metaphor to know that she won't be able to resist the urge to start investigating again. The teenage thrill is gone, of course, but the twentysomething dialogue is gently witty, and a high school reunion seems as good a time as any to dig up old (murderous) grievances. The grit-casual tone is undermined by a subplot about corrupt sheriffs, but the sum total is at least engaging enough to make you miss the glory days of the private eye genre, and everyone involved has an infectiously good time.
