The Palace Ballroom essentially began as so solo project for longtime Buckfast Superbee singer/guitarist Timothy Joseph.

The debut release This is the Plan... was nominated Best Rock Album at the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. Shortly after its release, the band entered Studio 350, a 17-room rehearsal hall that also happens to house Joseph's Rod Gervais-designed Phaser Control Recording Studio, to tape several sessions for a full-length to be called Descender. Those tracks were then mixed by Mark Needham (Cake, the Killers, Fleetwood Mac), who signed the band to a development deal.

Needham mixed the band's San Diego tracks in Los Angeles in exchange for points on the back end, "the same deal he made with the Killers," says Joseph. "Through Mark Needham, we actually got the guy that mastered [Tom Petty's] Damn the Torpedoes to master our CD," he says.

The next band began releasing tracks one song at a time, in late 2013, beginning with "Descender." In December 2015, Joseph began hosting the Sunday night radio show The Local 949 on KBZT.

The Palace Ballroom's self-titled 2015 sophomore album was promoted by filming a video for each of the eight songs, beginning with "Night Terrors."
