Dave Lowenstein (bass/vocals), Brennan Orndorff (guitar/vocals), and Mark Markowitz (Ludwig Drums) formed Mudgrass in late 2010 after weekly barbecue jam sessions grew into hours of live material for their first gig. “We’re a power trio that plays country songs,” says Lowenstein. “We’re a freight train of country-fried rock.”

Drawing upon years playing together in a previous five-piece alt-country Band Shoestring Strap, the members stripped down their old song arrangements and started writing new material, naming themselves after a 2007 Shoestring Strap full-length.

Call it a short attention span, or maybe just a love for the bizarre, but their cover songs include Black Sabbath, Spinal Tap, and the Price is Right theme song.

With their roots firmly planted in classic country and classic rock, their 2012 Just That Way album, recorded live with minimal overdubs, includes a mash-up pairing the Who's “Pinball Wizard” with Johnny Cash's “Folsom Prison Blues.”

A new single debuted in summer 2013, “Oh No Gotta Go,” recorded at P.B.’s Lost Ark Studio.
