Techno-pop group Sisster is fronted by singer-guitarist Viri Dimayuga (Viri, Los Bandidos), who previously sang original rockabilly tunes en Español, alongside bassist Raul Nunez. Dimayuga (a cemetery counselor by day) and Nuñez (who’s in landscaping) were both born in Tijuana and moved to San Diego in their teens.

Dimayuga believes Mexicans are more open to electronica. “I think kids in Mexico appreciate electronic music more,” says Dimayuga. “They grew up with it. They like to dance more.”

In April 2018, they embarked on a ten-day tour of Mexico City venues. The duo recorded their debut EP with Oingo Boingo bassist John Avila at his L.A. studio, with Anton Soder co-producing. It was released in February 2019, followed by around six months of touring Mexico and South America.

Despite the wide geographical range of performance locations, Dimayuga says the worst show ever was local. "It was when I opened up for a well-known Mexican band at the Music Box, and my loop station stopped working in the middle of my set. I had to continue the show with just my guitar and singing. The show went on, but it was nerve wracking because it literally stopped in the middle of a song, and in front of packed house."
